LESS than a day into his new job, and Chris Brass has already achieved more than David Beckham, George Best and Kevin Keegan. None of them was appointed player-manager at the tender age of 27.

If the job offer by the new York City board was audacious, the skipper's decision to accept was bolder still. He has taken an enormous burden onto his young shoulders.

The move dovetails both with City's financial situation and its new outlook as a community club. No one was a finer ambassador for club and city during last season's fight to survive than Chris Brass.

We wish the new manager, and his assistant Lee Nogan, the very best. They have a mountain to climb, but if they take the club to the summit we will be the first to salute the top Brass.
