A MISTAKE right on the finishing line cost Wigginton racing cyclist Phil Brighton third place in the latest race in the Joe Dalby road race series.
The race was based at Aldborough near Boroughbridge over a circuit based on the A168 Marton to Boroughbridge road.
Brighton started in the scratch group which also included other York riders Jamie Sharpe (York Cycleworks) and Paul Musgrave (Clifton CC).
They quickly caught the front longmarkers' group with one lap to go.
The a tough uphill sprint to the finish started early, with two riders pulling off the front while the other sprinters watched each other.
Two riders were clear with 100 metres of the uphill finish remaining. Brighton led out the sprint for third place but made the mistake of sitting up too early and this allowed Matthew Manakee (Glendene CC) to
nip in for third place on the line, leaving Brighton fourth and the top placed York rider.
