YOUR report "Trucker stuck" (May 31) states: "The driver did not understand the warning signs".
This is an understatement. He was Portuguese.
Europe and Britain went metric some years ago, so how could he be expected to understand feet and inches (which can be seen on the warning sign to the left of the picture)?
These measurements are all right for USA travellers in Britain, but along with the Narrow Road (6ft-6ins) signs, ought to have been changed years ago.
Even my grandchildren use metrication. The article also states the driver may face prosecution under the Road Traffic Act.
Tell me, if a private company was caught advertising or selling in feet and inches, would this be legal?
If not, why are our highways still using these antiquated measurements?
