A NEW service aimed at helping young people in trouble with the law has been launched in York - and urgently needs volunteer help.
The Appropriate Adult Service has been formed in partnership with City of York Council and the North Yorkshire Youth Offending Team.
The service has a team of volunteers on stand-by to attend police stations and assist young people who are in trouble and whose parents cannot, or will not, attend the
police station.
Paul Whalley, appropriate adult training co-ordinator, said: "We have 12 volunteers in the York area, but really need at least half a dozen more."
Successful volunteers will receive one-and-a-half days of training with the police, social services and defence lawyers. To volunteer, or for more information, ring Jill Holbert on 01904 613161.
