YORK schools are to be surveyed to find out the true extent of their staffing crisis.
City of York Council will carry out the survey following today's deadline for redundancy notices to find out the job loss figures and their impact on schools.
It is expected that more than 15 members of staff in schools across the city will lose their jobs.
Many temporary staff will not have their contracts renewed.
The news follows a BBC survey which found more than 700 teachers were facing redundancy because schools are running out of money.
Local authorities surveyed by the BBC said they would be laying off a total of 1,400 staff - the remainder coming as a result of falling pupil rolls.
