NO fewer than six players from York have been picked for the Yorkshire Under-23s amateur rugby league squad to take on the British Police select team on Sunday.

The Minster city also provides the side's management, with York-based duo Alfie Hill and Paul Higgins coaching the side, Spen Allison managing it and Jonti Thompson taking on the physio's role.

York Acorn ARLC provide three players for the 23-man squad, namely Danny Liddell and brothers Johnny and Stephen Waldron, while Heworth provide two in Sam Clarke - who signed amateur forms with York City Knights last month - and Carl Potter. New Earswick All Blacks' Jojo Hnesh is also involved.

Allison said: "It is the first time in a long time that we've had personnel from all these three clubs in this representative side, which is tremendous for local rugby league."

The match takes place at Featherstone Rovers' Post Office Road ground on Sunday, kick off 3pm.

Meanwhile, the BARLA Young Lions set off for a two-match tour of France on Monday, which precedes the three-week tour to New Zealand in July.
