Carpvale fishery at Moor Monkton could well be the place to head this weekend if you want rod-bending action.
Hot on the heels of Sunday's match on the match lake where a new record weight of 78lb was set, the Bank Holiday Monday Open on Cyprio Lake went ballistic. John Haw couldn't believe his luck after hauling out a massive 101lb 8oz of prime carp only to be beaten by son Steve, who totalled an immense 102lb 4oz.
Steve was on peg nine where he fished a small in-line method feeder tight to the many snags on the far bank. Alternating baits between meat, corn and cat-food he banked more than 30 carp with fish to 8lb.
Haw senior had to settle for second despite his ton-up heroics from peg 30. Using the same approach, he finished 12oz short of avoiding a family ribbing.
The amazing weights were not restricted to the Haw clan with third-placed Andy Gallant bagging 94lb 8oz and Stuart Wilson weighing in 91lb 8oz. Best of the rest were Len Hook on 64lb and Mick Green with 59lb 8oz.
The Front Pond is also in great form according to 'Super Mario' Whincup the jovial fishery boss. Martin Dodsworth won a match there with a mixed net of small carp and skimmers weighing 45-8 to head off the challenges of Mick Hare with 43-12 and Neil Milstead with 43lb.
Match attentions this weekend will be focused at Laybourne Lakes where a sell-out field will be anticipating big returns after a promising opener a fortnight since.
The fish should be more settled as has been the weather and the many silver fish should provide more consistent action. With plenty of big carp hooked and lost last time out the 60 or so competitors would do well to gear up accordingly.
My final recommendation is York Amalgamation's Park View Lake, near Sand Hutton. Bream and skimmers are really having it at the moment with pleasure catches to 40lb. The pole works well with chopped worm, pinkie or red maggot whilst the better bream often fall to feeder tactics fished in the middle of the lake.
