An intriguing contest lies in store when York entertain Driffield in the Oxbridge ECB Premier Cricket League at Clifton Park tomorrow.

Driffield exploded into the new season by beating current champions Harrogate and much-fancied Doncaster to top the league table. Since then they have slipped a few places below York who currently stand third behind Scarborough and Cleethorpes.

Driffield's Pakistan overseas player, Mohammed Zaman, has enjoyed success with both bat and his off-spin. Classy veteran Phil Woodcock is in the runs with skipper Rob Drury also due a few runs.

York have owed their success to gritty batting and tight, varied bowling. Will Warne retains his place after an excellent knock at Hull and Rob Flack returns for Tom Pringle who is on examination leave.

Meanwhile, York Ladies enjoyed their third consecutive success with a 93-run victory at Seamer.

The home side batted first and suffered early reverses against Mairi McLaren but built back their score steadily until Mira Rithaldi grabbed a couple of wickets.

Their final total of 170 runs required a steady batting performance from York but they lost two early wickets and were back to the 200 runs par.

Eventually the total progressed and the final pair, Sarah McDowell and Louise Abbott lifted York to 270.
