THE Rolling Stones may have decided to ignore the north of England on this summer's token British leg of their American, sorry, world tour but "probably the second greatest rock'n'roll band in the world" are playing Harrogate Theatre tomorrow night.

Only a few tickets are left for The Counterfeit Stones' lip-smacking send-up of the Forty Licks veterans.

In their 2003 Naughty Licks Tour show, Nick Dagger and co will be travelling through 40 years of The Stones, complete with costume changes and pastiche film footage.

Those film clips show the Counterfeit Stones preparing for the tour with the Rambert Dance Company - "I've always thought I was born to wear a tutu," explains Dagger - as well as recalling the disgraceful behaviour of Keef Richards on The Sooty And Sweep Show and revealing the truth behind the infamous 'Redlands Bust' involving Marianne Faithfull.

At the core of this "living cartoon" will be swaggering Counterfeit versions of Stones' singles and album tracks from 1964 to 1980. Tickets for the 7.30pm show cost £13 or £9 on 01423 502116.

IRISH diva Mary Coughlan returns for a record third visit to Oak House, Pocklington Civic Arts Centre, tonight at 8pm.

Coughlan, who will be accompanied by pianist James Delaney, has a vocal prowess and gift for interpreting songs frequently compared with that of Billie Holiday. Her depth of the blues brings beauty to moments of darkness, while she warmly embraces jazz and traditional Celtic music too, all topped off by a withering wit on the concert platform.

The support act will be Canadian singer-songwriter Bill Bourne. Tickets: £12, concessions £11, on 01759 301547.
