YORK Live Music Festival officially runs from May 1 to 31 but one event is spilling over into next month.
BarbiCUBE takes over York Barbican Centre on June 7 for an all-day showcase for York's "freshest and finest" musical talent.
Organised by the Cube Media studios in York, in association with the City of York Council Arts Service, BarbiCUBE involves four rooms of live bands, electronic acts, DJs and acoustic music.
From 1pm to 4.30pm, a free unplugged/acoustic event in the foyer features, among others, the Imperial Young Gentlemen's Dance Orchestra and Cube Media's own Megajam bands.
A late licence has been granted for the evening activities, which start at 7.30pm for a 1.30am finish.
Topping the main stage bill will be York hip-hop act New Flesh, who have progressed from playing at Fibbers to performing live on Tim Westwood's BBC Radio 1 show. They have recorded much of their material at Finsbury Park Studios, the York home to Melt Records, and next Saturday they will be accompanied by the UK University Breakdancing Champions.
Breathe are re-forming for the BarbiCUBE day in another highlight of a main-stage line-up that includes 2002 Fibbers/Evening Press Battle of the Bands winners Sevenball; The Shanks; singer songwriter Hayley Hutchinson; and drum'n'bass act Scassa Monakee, winners of the University of York Battle of the Bands.
In the Electronic Bar, Tim Wright/Tubejerk and Debasser perform live while Distrakt Records founders Piliavin and Zimbardo play on four decks, all accompanied by live visuals and video projections.
House music label Melt Records and York vinyl record shop Pure Sheng are teaming up to present the Melt/Pure Sheng Lounge, featuring DJs and live percussion, and the Acoustic Lounge will be showcasing York's acoustic talent.
Rose Kent, of Cube Media, says: "With such a strong line up, local roots, first pint at half price before 9pm and a late licence, this event is sure to be one of the best music nights in York in many years."
BarbiCUBE is part of both York Live Music Festival and BBC Music Live. Tickets are available at £10, concessions £7, from the Barbican, tel 01904 656688, and Pure Sheng Records, in Micklegate.
