LIFE on the front line in Yorkshire down the ages is being brought to life in a combined operation by two top tourism organisations.

Expert re-enactment staff from the Royal Armouries in Leeds will make guest appearances at some of English Heritage's key events throughout the summer.

The initiative, launched at Clifford's Tower in York, introduces characters from the 11th to the 20th centuries, and gives visitors the chance to ask what conditions would have been like on the battlefields of yesteryear.

The first co-venture is at Richmond Castle on June 7 and 8, when the Boots, Bayonets And Brasso event looks at life in the First World War. Other events with Royal Armouries experts on display include the People of Invasion at Helmsley Castle on August 2 and 3, and Richard III's Royal Progress at Middleham Castle on August 16 and 17.
