IN response to your article (May 26) I wish to reinforce the benefits that a home birth can bring.

Before my first pregnancy I thought women chose a home birth to be different or New Age, but after finding out more about the subject I eventually decided to opt for one myself.

The service I received showed the National Health Service at its very best. There was constant care provided by the midwives for 15 hours of an 18-hour labour, resulting in the delivery of a healthy baby girl without the need for intervention or unnecessary fuss.

Home birth may not be the answer for every mother, but I urge more women and their partners to consider this safe and natural option for childbirth.

The provision of more resources and the promotion of information by health professionals would also be an improvement.

With my second child due in December and the home birth already booked, I am (almost) looking forward to doing it all over again.
