York City announced their biggest signing of the closed season today as the club's rebirth got a symbolic and lucrative seal of approval.
Just two months after City were saved from extinction by the fans, the Minstermen have unveiled a new club sponsorship deal with Phoenix Software.
Phoenix Software is a York-based company and one of the UK's leading software licensing specialists.
York City commercial director Jason McGill, who clinched the deal, said: "It is fantastic to have Phoenix Software on board and we are all looking forward to seeing their name on our shirts next season.
"It is great to see a local company committed to supporting their local, community football club in this way."
The actual sums involved are not being disclosed.
However, in a statement, the club said the one-year deal will provide the club with 'essential income' as it strives to remain viable while pursuing success on the pitch.
McGill said: "Obviously, the name Phoenix is also of great significance as York City's troubles over the past 18 months and the success of the 'Save City' campaign really is a phoenix from the ashes story.
"The phoenix is a symbol of rebirth and we truly believe this is the renaissance of York City Football Club."
