A MAN died when he was hit by a train on the East Coast Main Line in North Yorkshire.
British Transport Police are investigating the death, which occurred at Northallerton Railway Station, at 6.30pm yesterday.
A spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances.
The incident caused severe disruption to services between York and the North East and Scotland along with the trans-Pennine services between the North East and Manchester.
Trains were at a standstill for 90 minutes after the incident until limited services began after 8pm.
Meanwhile, rail passengers endured serious delays on Bank Holiday Monday on the GNER service from Glasgow to Doncaster.
A spokesman said the 10pm service was stranded at Berwick after suffering a technical problem.
A coach was eventually put on for passengers from Berwick to Newcastle, meaning many did not arrive in York until the early hours.
"Unfortunately passengers were rather badly delayed," the spokesman added.
