Andy Gallant (Bob.Co) went for quality rather than quantity to win Saturday's 47-peg angling match at the Willows and made it a double success for the week.

Drawn to fish from peg 39 on Maple Lake, he used pole and paste over Swimstim groundbait for 35lb 8oz of carp around the 4lb mark.

Mal Proctor (Daiwa Goldthorpe) was second with a nice net from peg 5 on the Ridgepool. Offering chopped worm and casters at the foot of the far ledge, he bagged 28lb 12oz of ide to nearly 2lb.

Third was Steve Raper (Hirst Tackle), who used pole and caster up in the water on peg 53 for 23lb 14oz of chub.

Others: John Allerton (Tri-Cast Whizzo) 26-12-0; Dennis Geldard (Boston Spa) 26-2-0; Ian Walker (Boston Spa) and Steve Pearson (Bob.Co) both 25-6-0.

Gallant won the opening Tuesday evening contest with 39lb 4oz. Drawn to fish from 29 on Ridgepool, he used pole and paste to the island for carp to 4lb.

Silver fish dominated the final round at the superb Poole Bridge Farm fishery, Wheldrake.

Steve Brand (Team Thompson) could not quite do enough to pull a last round comeback in the York Tackle series despite victory in Sunday's 35-peg finale.

Drawn to fish from peg 3 on the old pond, he offered chopped worm at 11 metres for three big chub plus lots of skimmers for 29lb 11oz.

Final standings: Doug Featherstone (Malton and Norton) 15; Steve Brand (Team Thompson) 16; Karl Midhage (Team Thompson) 23; Steve Williamson (Team Thompson) 27.

John Fletcher set a record for the match lake at Carpvale when he topped Sunday's Red Lion-backed spring series event.

Drawn to fish from peg 47, he offered pellet to the far side cover for an all carp net of 78lb with fish to 8lb. He could have broken the ton barrier according to Carpvale boss Kev Whincup, who said he lost as many fish as he landed.

Runner-up was Albert Heaps with 20lb 7oz, who beat the challenges of Bernard Guy, 20lb 6oz, and John Sykes, 20lb 2oz.

John Allerton (Tri-Cast Whizzo) continued to prove he can bag on any venue by taking Sunday's 66-peg sell-out match on Maple Lake at the Oaks complex at Sessay.

Drawn peg 30, the Selby-based star offered pole and pellet tight to the island at 12 metres for 43lb 4oz of carp to 2lb.

The same tactics also worked for runner-up Stuart Turner (Merlin Baits), who was at end peg 1 where he had an all carp 32lb 4oz

Others: John McGarell (MAP Elton) 31-12-0; Dean Smith (Trabucco Elton ) 31-0-0; Roger Holmes (MAP Elton) 27-10-0; Simon Wood (MAP Elton) 27-8-0.
