Timmy Murphy, one of Britain and Ireland's top jump-jockeys, now plying his trade with some part-time riding on the Flat, can make his first visit to Ripon tomorrow evening a happy one.
The versatile Murphy teams up again with Teorban, who recently provided him with his first winner on the Flat when scoring handsomely on the sand at Wolverhampton.
The Mark Pitman-trained gelding now bids to follow up in the Ripon Farm Services Handicap over two miles and a 6lb penalty may not be enough to stop him obliging once more.
The Gambler makes plenty of appeal in the 'Ripon Spring Festival' Handicap over six furlongs.
The three-year-old has been running well this season for Ann Duffield and was the winner of a claiming race at Redcar a couple of weeks ago, after which he was acquired by Paul Johnson, who trains in County Durham.
The Gambler could prove to be a useful addition to the Johnson yard and he will receive every assistance here with smart apprentice Luke Fletcher in the saddle. He is awarded the nap vote.
In the £15,000 Cocked Hat Farm Foods Handicap, Mafruz gets the vote to oblige for Richard Fahey and jockey Paul Hanagan.
The four-year-old loks to be running into form and was far from disgraced when finishing sixth at Hamilton on his latest start. Tomorrow's slightly quicker ground is expected to suit him better.
Waterstone gets the vote in the opening Lishman Sidwell Campbell & Price Maiden Stakes.
The two-year-old, a promising runner-up on his debut last week, represents Mark Johnston, who took this prize 12 months ago with The Bonus King. Darryll Holland takes the mount.
The best of tomorrow's afternoon action comes from Yarmouth, where Major Attraction seeks to complete a quick course double.
Mark Brisbourne's gelding prevailed by a short-head here 12 days ago and now attempts to follow up over the same distance in the Coopers (Ironmongers) Handicap. George Baker again has the mount.
The moody Lucayan Monarch is something of a law unto himself, but Paul Blockley's five-year-old deserves every respect in the HKB Wiltshires Legal Services Amateur Riders' Handicap.
Although out of his depth in a high-class sprint handicap at York earlier this month, Lucayan Monarch was far from disgraced and he also has to his credit a couple of other decent displays in defeat this season.
This race will not take much winning and Lucayan Monarch is perfectly capable, if he's in the right frame of mind.
Not one for faint-hearted punters, admittedly, but one to ponder all the same.
