A MAN was killed and another was injured in a head-on smash on a North Yorkshire road.
A 19-year-old local man, travelling from the Biggin crossroads on the B1222, near Sherburn-in-Elmet, died after the black Ford Escort he was driving collided with a silver Vauxhall Astra, in Bishopdike Road, adjacent to the Somerfield distribution depot, at 10.05pm yesterday.
The driver of the Astra, a 30-year-old man from the Selby area, who was travelling from the Sherburn Industrial Estate, was taken to York Hospital, where he was treated for chest and foot injuries.
Meanwhile, two 16-year-old pedestrians were seriously injured after being hit by a red Ford Escort on the A168 Thirsk to Northallerton road, at 11pm on Saturday.
The girl and boy, both from Northallerton, were taken by ambulance to the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, after the incident at the southernmost junction to Thornton-le-Moor. The girl was transferred to Leeds General Infirmary.
