Sea to coast

Seaton Carew to the Algarve - that's the route York GC professional Andrew Hoyles and amateur Keith Griffiths, plus Heworth GC's Steve Burdett and Mark Atkinson, will hope to follow next month. Both pairs are in the regional final of the Lombard Trophy, Europe's biggest pro-am competition, at Seaton Carew on June 25. The winners will earn an all-expenses trip to the grand final in Portugal's San Lorenzo course on September 5-9.

Tykes are tops

AFTER the first round of Northern Counties League matches Yorkshire are top alongside Northumberland. Both teams opened with victories, but Yorkshire's 14-4 triumph over Cheshire at York's Fulford Golf Club gives them the edge over their nearest rivals. Yorkshire's next match is at home to Northumberland at Bradford GC on June 7.

Ganton star three

GANTON GC will have three players in the Yorkshire team for the English Ladies Golf Association Northern Counties championship at Wilmslow in Cheshire on June 15-20. The talented trio are Sara Garbutt, Naomi Edwards and Rachel Bell. Other North Yorkshire players in the team are Malton and Norton's Emma Duggleby and Katie Dobson from The Oaks.

Winters warmer

IAN Winters won Allerthorpe Park GC captain Ian McGregor's Captain's Day event with a nett 59 - three ahead of Andrew Walton. Lady captain Judy Clarke's Chalice Trophy was won by Marcina Birkett on 69. Christina Floyd had the best gross score of 88.

Tanner-tastic

Toft Green Golf Society's Steve Tanner dominated its season's opener at the Mid-Yorkshire course in Darrington. He won the morning team event with Chris Doyle, two nearest the pin prizes and was second to Doyle in the afternoon.

Yes, it's Issitt

FOREST Park GC junior Kieran Issitt, playing off seven, won the club's first major of the season. He fired a nett 70 to win the Committee Cup.
