MATTHEW Laverack makes precisely the point on Coppergate II (Letters, May 9) that was made in one of the Green Party's successful election leaflets.
The new council can review its decision on the sale of the land for the Coppergate development in the light of the evident public opinion opposing the plan, irrespective of the minister's appeal decision.
The only possible objection would be if the council had entered into legal contracts or would face financial penalties for a change of heart.
However, if that were the case, questions should be asked of those officers or members who made commitments or decisions before completion of the planning process.
Coun Andy D'Agorne,
Green Party councillor,
Broadway West, York.
