ENGLISH women's amateur golf champion of three years ago Emma Duggleby, is on course to reclaim the national crown after she powered into today's quarter-finals at the Aldeburgh club in Suffolk.
The Malton and Norton Golf Club star finished yesterday's match-play rounds with a vengeance. After edging past Tracey Boyes (Meon Valley Hotel) at the 19th hole in the first round, she routed her second round opponent Helen Batt of Ashford 6 and 5.
Also through to the last eight went Ganton's Naomi Edwards. She posted victories over Orsett's Jodie Dartford at the 20th in the first round and then lashed Rachel Lomas (Hallowes) by an emphatic 8 and 6 margin.
However, there were first round exits for Ganton's Sara Garbutt and Katie Dobson of The Oaks. Garbutt perished 5 and 3 to Karen Heywood (Crompton and Royton), while Dobson's interest ended when she was beaten 7 and 5 by Curtis Cup player Kerry Smith (Waterlooville).
