Tonnes of sugar were on the menu for schoolmates at Lord Deramore's Primary School - but it was all part of their science week studies.
About 30 Year 4 pupils from the Heslington school visited British Sugar's landmark factory complex in Plantation Drive, York.
They were given a guided tour of the sugar plant which processes 1.2 million tonnes of raw sugar beet every year and employs almost 100 people.
Teachers at Lord Deramore's School, which has 199 pupils, are holding a science week at the school to highlight the physical world around us.
Bulk supplies of sugar from the York plant find their way into soft drinks, chocolate, boiled sweets and jam around the world.
