RYEDALE district councillor Brian Cottam is settling into his new role as chairman of the authority.
The Tory councillor, who was elected on to the council in May 1999, takes over from Lib Dem councillor Helen Schroeder.
On top of his official duties as chairman, he will continue to represent the 15 parishes in his Derwent ward, which includes the villages of Settrington, Langton, Burythorpe, Howsham, Huttons Ambo and Westow.
