THE North Yorkshire man killed in a road accident yards from his home has been named as Joseph Drury 75, of York Road, Easingwold.
Mr Drury was one of three brothers travelling in an Isuzu Trooper which was in collision with a dark-coloured Ford Escort Cosworth on the A19, near Tollerton crossroads.
The tragedy unfolded as the Trooper, driven by Mr Drury's 71-year-old brother, was turning right into the farmhouse two of the brothers shared.
Another brother, aged in his 70s and from West Yorkshire, was today stable but recovering in York District Hospital.
Mike Hughes, proprietor of Smith Brothers Garage, York Road, said he often saw Mr Drury and his brother when they brought their cars to him.
He said: "They were always very pleasant, he was a very nice gentleman. I saw them when they came in to get bits done to their cars. They were ever such nice people, it's such a shame."
The driver and sole occupant of the Ford, a 27-year-old man, was in a comfortable condition yesterday in Middlesbrough General Hospital.
An inquest on Mr Drurywas opened and adjourned yesterday.
