TEENAGER Steve Gregson won the latest event in York and District Snooker Association's monthly snooker handicap knockout competitions.
He beat Kevin Gall in the final. Gregson, 13, produced some great long potting and safety play and Gall conceded at 69-41 behind with three colours left on the table. Gregson won £20 for winning the tournament plus £5 for the highest break, a 32 in his quarter-final against Mark Jackson. Gall won £10 as losing finalist.
The 17 entries for the competition, sponsored by Heworth Mini-buses and played at the Cueball Club, included newcomers Rob Duckmanworth, Rob Kettlewell and Clive Whyte, a leading light in York Conservative clubs' snooker. But they all went out in the first round.
In the semi-finals, Gregson took the final pink to pip Mark Dodds 64-56, while York first teamer Gall beat York second teamer Dave Sanderson 51-39.
In the Plate competition final, Andy Crosby (handicap -7) beat Tim Hart 65-55 to pocket £5.
