MALTON will officially start its countdown to Christmas tonight.
With celebrations including a balloon race, carol singers, Santa's grotto and sleigh, the town's Christmas lights will be turned on at 6pm.
Everyone is invited to join in the event which will run late into the evening with a disco in the market square.
Town centre manager Peter Mudge said it promised to be an exciting festive occasion.
"This should really get people into the Christmas spirit," he said.
"There is a lot going on and something for everyone young or old."
He said words of thanks needed to be sent to Bobbie North, the man responsible for putting the lights up, as illness would prevent him attending the official switch-on.
