Tadcaster businesses were left without electricity today as an unexpected power cut threw preparations to greet visitors to today's York races into disarray. Traders were left fuming when an emergency helpline simply stated "there is a major power cut in your area".
Coun Brian Percival said: "This has caused a big upset to the Tadcaster economy because raceday is a vital source of income for local people.
"The town has long been a traditional pre and post-race watering hole."
