SHERIFF Hutton jockey Kevin Darley guided Magistretti to victory in the Tote Dante Stakes at York to set up a crack at next month's Derby.
After bringing 8/1 shot Magistretti through in the later stages to beat Tuning Fork by half-a-length, Darley said: "I have always thought that the Dante was one of the best trials for the Derby."
Dunhill Starstayed on again to finish third. The final decision to run the winner at the Epsom showpiece will rest with owner Michael Tabor and trainer Neville Callaghan.
Magistretti has now been quoted at 25-1 for the Derby.
