YORK schoolboys are celebrating after becoming the first under-11 representative side to lift the Yorkshire Cup in the competition's 35-year history.
However, the York side will only hold the trophy for six months after drawing 0-0 with their Rotherham counterparts in the final. Both sides agreed to share the cup.
Despite being held to a scoreless stalemate, York were unlucky not to claim the trophy outright after dominating the game and creating stacks of chances.
Rotherham were grateful to their goalkeeper for keeping the scores level. He produced at least four outstanding saves to deny York victory.
Marcos Shepherd went closest to breaking the deadlock for York in the first half but saw his right-footed shot was tipped away.
In the second half, York lay siege to the Rotherham goal but found the visiting shot-stopper still in inspired form with saves to deny Joe Dale, Jamie Hopcutt and Tom Corner.
York Schools Under-14s also enjoyed a fair degree of success, being beaten only once in their 11 matches.
They won five and drew five of their games, scoring 27 goals with Tom Breslin finishing as leading scorer with nine.
Breslin and Mark Holt were named as Cris Howes manager's player of the year, while Mikey Warriner won the players' award.
Meanwhile, English Martyrs are the kings of Primary Schools' football in York.
The winners of the various Primary Leagues met at Hempland on Saturday to determine the overall winner of the Primary League.
English Martyrs finished on top with 12 points, one more than nearest rivals Robert Wilkinson (Strensall).

ATHLETICS
The York and District Schools' Athletics Trials will be held at Huntington Stadium tomorrow, starting at 1.45pm.
Track events take priority over field events but all athletes must report to the field event official at the time stated.
Track events are not individually timed, so athletes must listen to the loud-speaker announcements.
Where there are heats the final will consist of the first in each heat, plus the appropriate number of fastest losers to make up a final of six.
Any competitors unavailable for the North Yorkshire County Championships on Saturday, June 14, at Huntington Stadium (noon start) should inform the announcer before the end of the trials.
Any athlete who comes first, second or third in more than one event should tell the announcer their preference for selection before the end of the meeting.
Any athlete unable to compete in the trials because of injury, illness, or exams, whom staff consider to be worthy of consideration for selection should submit times and distances to Wayne Isherwood before the end of the trials.
Schools involved in the City Championships should note that first round matches are to be completed by Friday, June 6 and semi-finals by Friday, June 13.
Reports of the York schools' tag rugby tournament will be published later this week.
