PUPILS and staff at a York school have been awarded the National Healthy School standard logo.
Canon Lee School joined the Healthy School scheme in autumn 1999, and has worked hard with its local community to make the school a healthy place for everyone.
The City of York Healthy School Scheme is in partnership between the Local Education Authority and local Primary Care Trust and is a nationally-accredited programme.
Penny Gregg, Selby and York's PCTs Healthy Schools co-ordinator, said: "This is a very well-deserved achievement by the pupils and staff at Canon Lee. They have worked with their local community to embed a whole range of initiatives which are making a difference to the physical and mental well being of everyone at the school."
To achieve the national award the school had to show its commitment to ongoing improvement and development to promoting physical and emotional health.
The developments that took place within the school include a a new drugs policy and drugs awareness education, comprehensive support of lower school students by upper school trained councillors on bullying and the introduction of citizenship education into the curriculum.
Head teacher Kevin Deadman said "This award recognises the excellent work staff and students do in preparation for a full and balanced adult life."
