MORE than 100 weapons from East Yorkshire were handed in to police in the national gun amnesty.
The final figures for the county reveal that four self-loading handguns, seven revolvers and three shot pistols were given up.
There were also 16 rifles, 43 shotguns, 35 air rifles, 16 air pistols, 12 non-firing imitation firearms and one air soft imitation firearm handed in.
Also surrendered were 3,816 bullets and 159 shotgun cartridges.
Inspector Steve Page said: "The effort that the public have put in throughout the whole amnesty, but especially the last week, has been magnificent.
"There is no doubt that the cache of weapons handed in by the public can be described as significant and there is little doubt that opportunity has been denied to some who would use firearms as a means of threatening others and committing crime.
"It's also a measure of what the public think about firearms and their circulation in this area.
"The public tell us they are concerned about them and many have voted with their feet in support of getting them off the streets by handing them in. The public are to be praised."
