A 31-year-old man has appeared before York magistrates charged with assaulting a police sergeant and another officer with a bottle outside Fulford Road police station in the city.
Lee Martin Hughes, no fixed abode, is also accused of unlawful violence and stealing a chicken and a bottle of wine from Jackson's store in Fulford Road.
The offences are alleged to have occurred on Wednesday, at 6.45pm.
Hughes, who did not have a solicitor, was remanded in custody for a week.
