JAPANESE pianist Noriko Kawai plays virtuoso music by Liszt, Beethoven and Domenico Scarlatti at the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall, University of York, on Wednesday, May 7.
Born in Tokyo, Kawai studied at the Royal College of Music in London and Academia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Her repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to new music, and she is particularly noted for her performances of Scriabin, hence next week's concert offers a rare chance to hear Scriabin's Two Poems and Sonata No. 5.
Music by the eccentric Italian aristocrat Scelsi completes the 8pm programme. Tickets: £11, £9 concessions, £3 students; under 16s admitted free with adult ticket holder. Box office: 01904 432439.
