CLAIRE HESSEY celebrated her 18th birthday today - by voting in the local elections.
She came of age just in time for today's poll, which will decide the make-up of both district and parish councils.
Claire, a student at Selby College, recorded her vote at Longman Hills Primary School, near her home in Hunters Way, Selby.
She was one of only two teenagers in Selby district whose 18th birthday was on polling day, and was presented with a commemorative copy of a poll card by Selby District Council chief executive, Martin Connor.
Mr Connor also invited Claire to attend this evening's count at Selby Abbey Leisure Centre.
Don't miss tomorrow's Evening Press for full coverage of the council election results.
