HUNDREDS of women are still wanted for the York Race For Life to turn it into a record-breaking event.
So far, more than 3,000 women have signed up for the five-kilometre sponsored run and walk in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Race For Life, which is supported by the Evening Press, will take place on Knavesmire on Sunday, May 11.
Organisers hope many more women will enrol before the deadline for entries tomorrow.
Last year, some 4,000 women took part and raised £246,000 a figure organisers hope to smash this year.
Race organiser Janet Cooper said: "We have 3,364 entries to date. Last year 4,100 women took part in York's Race for Life. This year we are aiming to beat that figure so we need as many women from the York area to put on their running or walking shoes and sign up for the York Race.
"The Knavesmire event is one of our ten Celebration races throughout the country and is guaranteed to be a family fun day out for all the family."
The race starts at 11am but Janet says participants should aim to arrive by 10am. Entertainment will take place from 9.30am.
She added: "Please try and car share so we can cut down on the numbers of cars. Parking is at the Racecourse is via Bishopthorpe Road only. Parking is not allowed on Knavesmire Road. Remember there will only be water at the finish so please bring your own water to drink at the start and en route. Also, please bring suncream in case of hot weather."
To enter Race For Life, visit the website: www.raceforlife.org or telephone the hotline 08705 134 314.
Entry costs £7.50 for women and £4.50 for girls under 18.
