A DRAMA group will tonight begin performances of a modern classic.
The Easingwold Drama Group are presenting Arthur Miller's The Crucible at the Galtres Centre, in Easingwold, beginning tonight at 7.30pm, until Saturday.
The play, written during the 1950s, is now regarded as a modern classic, so much so that it is a set examination piece in the GCSE curriculum.
Easingwold Players chairman Geoffrey Crass said: "It is a perfect reason for young people to come down and see the play at first hand to help their study of the play.
"The electric atmosphere of the play is an inspiring assertion of the individual, it is a powerful play, not to be missed."
Set in Salem in 17th century America, the play describes how innocent people mischievously accused of witchcraft end up burning at the stake due to religious bigotry. It is directed by retired teacher Richard Wood who taught the play, which is Inspired by the Communist witch-hunt atmosphere of 1950s America, in his former capacity as an English teacher, and who also features in the performance.
Bar and refreshments are available, with full facilities for disabled people and a loop system for the hard of hearing.
Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children, available from the Galtres Centre office or on the door.
