MR KIND asserts (Letters, April 23) that voting Labour in the local elections holds the promise of a "better future" for York. I guess this depends on your definition of a better future.
If higher taxes and wasting taxpayers' money are the benchmarks of a better future, then voting Labour or even Liberal Democrat is clearly a viable option.
If, on the other hand, low taxation and better public services are your priorities then the only realistic option is to vote Conservative - but don't take my word for it. I am only repeating the findings of a national assessment of local authorities carried out by the independent Audit Commission.
