IT'S surprising that Lib Dem Councillor Ann Reid is now denying her insensitive remark indicating that if people could not afford homes in York then they should go elsewhere to live where housing is cheaper.
Why is it then that, when the Labour Party drew attention to this uncaring Lib Dem policy in a leaflet distributed to all York homes at the end of last year, no denial was then forthcoming?
Because Coun Reid was speaking as the planning spokesperson for her party when she made the remark, it is clear that, at least for the past six months, such indifference to the plight of many York families, struggling to get their foot on the first rung of the housing ladder has, indeed, been the policy of her party.
It seems that only on the eve of an election do the Lib Dems think better of their oppressive views. And even then, it is probably just pretence.
