IN THEIR campaign leaflets, the Liberal Party in Clifton Ward are trying to present themselves as the only viable opposition to Labour.
It is exactly because of the lack of any apparent opposition in the past four years, that myself and others were asked by the residents to stand as prospective independent councillors for Clifton Ward.
There are seven independent candidates up for election in York. If elected, they would hold the balance of power in City of York Council and, as independents, would be able to support worthwhile policies no matter who puts them forward.
Voting independent is the way to have a real voice, free from party politics, which in many people's minds seems to hinder the running of the council rather than help.
It must also be noted that all the independent candidates in Clifton reside in the ward, unlike any of the Liberal and two out of three of the Labour candidates.
