A YORK doorman charged with murder has been granted bail.
Paul Maurice Garner, 59, of Chaloners Road, Woodthorpe, was released from custody yesterday after a hearing in chambers in the courthouse before the Honorary Recorder of York, Judge Paul Hoffman.
Garner was working as a doorman at Yates' Wine Lodge in Low Ousegate, York, when William John Smith, 62, suffered head injuries in an incident outside the pub on April 18.
Mr Smith died in Leeds General Infirmary on April 22 without regaining consciousness.
Garner is expected to return to York Crown Court later this week for a preliminary hearing. His bail conditions include living at an address in the south of England, not travelling abroad or visiting York, not contacting witnesses and reporting to police.
