DELAYS in completion of their pavilion alterations prompted York III to switch their debut game to Escrick Park where they had the better of a draw in a real nail-biter.
Skipper Kevin Mendham made 57 and Graham Mackfall 41 to help York to 168 all out with G Roberts taking 3-25 for Selby. Steve Whisker replied with 40, Steve Smith 43 and Stuart Hutchinson 21no but Selby just failed in their quest as their innings closed on 165-9.
There was an even more tense finish at Thorp Arch where the home side won off the final ball after successfully chasing a total of 221-8 by Londesbrough Park.
Park's total owed much to Nick Owen, who hit 103.
Last season's wooden spoonists, Cawood, got off to a good start when they beat Civil Service by 16 runs.
Fifteen-year-old Carl Blundell made 67no as Cawood reached 150-9 despite the efforts of W Anderson (5-47) and I Barber (4-56). Anderson followed with 63 but Service were all out for 134.
Wilberfoss emerged victorious at Heslington by three wickets. A Dixon made 43 and Mark Cheshire 26 for the home side as M Cilds claimed 4-54 and Tim Peters 4-23. Paul Clark (4-49) and S Thompson (3-53) tried hard to defend their side's total but James Crawford made 47 and Neil Smith 30 to see Wilberfoss through.
