Hemingbrough lost by six wickets in their first-ever game in the York Senior League at Woodhouse Grange II.
Defeat in division three came despite a century by their Pakistani star Maqsood Akbar, who hit 101 and had fine support from Nathan Briggs, who rattled 57 following his move from Clifton Alliance as the newcomers made 206-5.
Grange's reply was fronted by Stuart Craven, who hit 82. He had the backing of Dave Langton, who made 54 as Grange knocked off the required runs for the loss of four wickets.
After racing to 27-0 in the first four overs, Bolton Percy were becalmed as they lost four wickets for just two runs in ten overs as Hovingham took control. Howard Hall (33) and Mike Furze (40) restored a measure of respectability with a 71-run partnership but Bolton slipped to 124 all out.
Hovingham's batsmen did not find life that comfortable as wickets tumbled but John Fairburn's 41 allowed them to reach a two-wicket win.
Civil Service had a comfortable eight-wicket home victory over Pickering II.
E Hill made 40 for the Pikes but they were cut down to size as P Winn took 3-24, Mick Bradley 4-66 and Reece Houghton 3-24. Simon Brown then made 56 and James Chilsholm 45 as Service moved to a comfortable win at 123-2.
Heworth II gained a rare batting first victory when they dismissed Bubwith for 162 after making 190-7 in the first innings. Joe Johnson starred for Heworth with 76.
New Earswick netted full batting points when they entertained Clifton Alliance as they reached 217-8 through the efforts of Andy Freeman (35), James Routledge (44), Andy James (54) and Craig Stimpson (28), with Alistair Wray taking 3-34 for the visitors.
Former Heslington skipper John Myers made his first appearance for Clifton and hit an impressive 81 not out in a total of 110-3 when the weather intervened after 26 overs,
Heslington were able to reach 206-4 at Yapham thanks to Ryan Elliott's 76, 56 from Andy Ezzard and 33 from Paul Neal.
Dick Wright then hit 103no for Yapham and Clive Clark 41 but their side could only draw at 192-8 due to Elliot's 3-69 and a 3-60 stint from long-time Heworth man Jason Gatus.
