THREE York amateur boxers have proved the future of the noble art is bright in the city with wins in the week.
Glenn Banks and Luke Atkin, who fight out of the Hull St Paul's club and were both gold medallists at the Multi-Nations Competition in Denmark last month, as well as Harry Matthews, produced superb displays at Huntington WMC to complete a hat-trick of wins for York.
Banks, from Huntington, avenged his controversial defeat against Dudley's experienced Martin Gordon from back in March to record a unanimous points victory with a stylish display.
Banks, who is trained by Bill Brown, was harshly robbed of victory in the first meeting of the two welterweights, but he made no mistake this time around.
Burnholme College pupil Atkin was also in fine form as he overcame Sheffield's J Woodhouse after an entertaining, but hard-fought bout.
Harry Matthews (All Saints) completed the wins for the York boxers as he proved to be too strong t the 67kilo level for St Paul's Mark Burnett.
All Saints' Danny Holmes lost on a majority decision in a 37 kilo bout to L Hodson, from Keighley.
Brown, who has trained the liked of York boxing heroes Henry Wharton and Jamie Warters, said: "All of them fought really well in front of a packed crowd. They are improving all the time."
