A FILM about the rise of the anti-war movement in York will premiere at the City Screen cinema tomorrow.
Campaign group York Against the War teamed up with local film production company Wide Eyed Productions to make Not In Our Name.
The half-hour documentary-style film shows the development of the York Against the War (YAW) movement, leading up to the massive anti-war march in London on February 15.
The Iraqi war provoked an unprecedented level of protest in York, with 1,500 people travelling to London to take part in the demo.
A month later more than 5,000 anti-war protesters took to York's streets while spontaneous direct action protests regularly sprang up across the city.
YAW spokesman Rory Palmer said: "The protests were unprecedented for this city. We think when people look back over the history of York for this period York Against The War will be a big part of that history and this film will be a very important historical document."
Film director Anton Short said: "I am really pleased with it. We went down to the day of action in London in December, when travelling to the big demo was being discussed, and it really caught our imagination. This is not about soundbites, it is about getting to know about the people who were there and what they were like."
The film will be shown from 11.30am tomorrow. Tickets, costing £3, are available in advance or on the door.
