A SCOTTISH motorist was clocked notching a speed believed to be the fastest for a car on a British road - while on his way to York.
Jason McAllister, 27, was caught doing 156.7mph in his BMW M3 on the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road.
McAllister, of Manor Avenue, Aberdeen, told police he was on his way to York to visit his estranged wife following a break-up.
McAllister, who was already banned from driving when he was arrested on March 6, had already pleaded guilty.
His case, at Forfar Sheriff Court, was deferred for sentence until May 15. The court was told that the social worker dealing with him was on holiday.
He said: "I didn't realise how fast I was going because I was so emotional. The car can do 170mph."
His speed beats the previous worst case of 155mph, by Porsche driver George MacLean, on the same road 13 years ago.
