THE sights and sounds of the 1940s are returning to a wartime airfield near York for a charity event, inspired by the Dambusters raid.
There will even be authentic Second World War NAAFI food on offer when the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington plays host to the aptly-named We'll Meet Again event for WellBeing, the health research charity for women and babies, on Saturday May 17.
The social event, complete with dance band, period music, and people invited to attend in "more or less" authentic uniform and civilian dress from the 1940s, was inspired by the coincidence of the 60th anniversary of the famous Dambusters mission, when a squadron of Lancaster aircraft attacked German dams with revolutionary "bouncing bombs".
To prepare for the event museum staff and volunteers joined dance organiser Angela Bush in period costume at the museum's Women's Air Service Memorial Garden. The second annual Women's Air Service Reunion day will take place at the museum on Thursday, June 12.
