NORTH Yorkshire schools are being told they do not need to quarantine pupils returning from areas affected by SARS.
Dr Ebere Okereke, consultant in communicable disease control at North Yorkshire Health Protection Unit, said: "If students returning from SARS-affected areas are symptom- free, they pose no risk to others.
"We are not advising exclusion or quarantine for students returning from affected areas unless they are unwell."
However, she stressed that students should not return to school if they have any symptoms of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome).
"In the exceptional circumstance, where a student returning from an affected area reports coming into direct contact with a known case of SARS, we are advising schools to monitor the student for symptoms over a period of ten days following their return."
