THE Yorkshire mother who touched the nation's hearts by completing marathons and cycling the length of Britain despite having terminal cancer comes to York tomorrow, following a local family's battle with the disease.
Jane Tomlinson, from Leeds, will receive thousands of pounds for her charity, Jane's Appeal, which has been raised thanks to a series of fundraising events organised by York Marks & Spencer manager Gordon d'Andilly.
Gordon's family encountered the devastating disease when his wife, Shirley,
suffered from the illness, which led to her death six weeks ago.
He organised the fundraising because of her, which is estimated to have raised more than £10,000 for Jane's Appeal, with more events including a static bicycle ride and collections taking place on the day.
Gordon was pleased by the results.
He said: "Raising more than £10,000 in such a short period of time is clearly something of an achievement."
Jane will receive the funds at the Marks & Spencer store, Pavement, York, at about 2pm tomorrow.
Cyclists of all standards are invited to raise money for Cancer Research UK in the sixth Wetherby Cycle Ride on Sunday, June 8. There are two routes of 20 and 30 miles and the event, which starts at 10.30am is open to adults and children over 12. Entry is £6 for adults, £3 for children and £14 for families.
