New Earswick Rugby League Club Under-12s put up a battling performance in their final game of the season before losing 24-14 to Dudley Hill.
The massive team from Bradford were made to work hard by a determined All Blacks, who scored tries by Brad Swainston, Nick Speck, while Luke Watling kept the York team in the game until Dudley Hill reverted to rough tactics in pursuit of promotion from Yorkshire division two. Speck and Hodgson were top tacklers and Brad Swainston was man of the match.
A ding-dong match saw New Earswick Under-10s twice come from behind to beat Wetherby 16-12 with a late try.
The match was a curtain-raiser to York City Knights' match against Gateshead at Huntington Stadium.
Jake Atkinson opened the scoring for All Blacks before Wetherby scored twice to lead 8-4 at half-time. Dean Layton levelled before Wetherby hit back. Strong running by Lewis Pool and Jake Mawer led to James Leaf finishing off a good move to level again and, after some good defence, Tom Barron passed the ball to Liam Dawson, who beat several defenders to score.
