Selby WARRIORS finished a disappointing season on a high by beating York Acorn 'A' 24-22 in an enthralling Yorkshire League division two derby.
Selby opened the scoring with a try from the returning Ian Ramskill after a powerful run out wide. Mark Hanson added the first of his four goals. Acorn then replied with two quick tries to take a 10-4 lead, but the introduction of prop Paul Helstrip got Selby moving again.
He put the Warriors back in front and Colin Barker scored a winger's try in the corner to put Selby in the driving seat at half-time.
Acorn roared back with a couple of tries to go ahead. The game was now end to end before a planned move enabled Andy Rowe to barge his way under the posts for the winning Selby try.
Acorn's tries came from Darren Drury, man of the match hooker Ben Jones - who both saw other touchdowns ruled out - and Kevin Brayshaw, with impressive stand-off Tom Galloway adding two goals.
Selby, badly hit by injuries this season, have already started recruiting players for next term. Anyone interested should contact coach Kev Fellows on 01977 554868.
