IT started with David Attenborough with "perhaps what happened" and "it is supposed that" followed by programmes presented as fact which the nation swallowed hook line and sinker.
Then followed Walking With Dinosaurs et al and finally Walking With Cavemen. For the Evening Press to describe these efforts as documentaries is to stretch credulity too far.
All these programmes have at best five per cent science, ten per cent informed opinion and 85 per cent HG Wells or Arthur C Clarke-type speculation.
It should be remembered that science is proven fact or the search for it. These programmes did not come within a million miles of either definition.
